Steering Committee Minutes for March 15, 2005

Updates:

Ron is trying to get money from the state to help district ballparks.

According to MSD, District 13 complaints are so few that only $1.5 million has been designated for DRI projects for the coming two years. (DRI = projects related to flow of water in ditches and culverts) Presently, work under DRI is being done in Leemont, Windsor Rd., Tindor, Scottsdale, Candlelight, and Auburn Oaks.

Sidewalk projects for Leemont and Candlelight are to begin soon.

Operation Brightside will be beautifying the triangular area at the intersection of South Park Rd. and Fairdale Rd.

Candlelight Neighborhood Association is receiving a $2,500 matching grant from Metro UNited Way and another $7,500 for services related to needs gleaned from a neighborhood-wide survey.

`Dorothy reports that Watsonville will be meeting on March 20 to form a neighborhood association.

Auburn Oaks Homeowners Association proposed that arrows be painted in the turning lanes on New Cut Rd.to help traffic flow.

The project to beautify Fairdale village should begin in April.

Our district's community meeting is scheduled for March 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Fairdale Elementary.

On April 25 at 7:00 p.m. a community meeting will be held to review the Fairdale Village Neighborhood Plan that was completed this past February.

Ray wants a copy of Pull-A-Part's binding elements because he says it is impossible for them to do some of the things they have promised. He also objects to the $200,000 settlement being paid by the city to the Newby's and will express his objections in writing to the Mayor's office.

Ron thinks that the Echo-Tech metal-crunching operation off Stonestreet may not be pursued - no petition has been filed.

Ray urges that dumpers on the Gene Snyder be fined if videotaped letting trash fly off trucks on the Gene Snyder. Ron points out that the Gene Snyder is under state jurisdiction.

Concerning advertising signs, there is a law that now states that signs placed in the right-of-way are considered abandoned garbage and can be removed and discarded.

Linda reports that Yorktown North is forming a Block Watch Committee in cooperation with LMPD and Renee Stigael of the Dept. of Neighborhoods. Block Watch signs are to be posted and walking teams are being formed.

Ron suggests that any reports of drainage problems be made through his office first.
