Most of us at one time or another have been frustrated by something a neighbor has done or not done.
The problem is that many will not do anything, except complain indirectly about their frustrations. This
usually does not solve the problem.
Since there are several different builders within our community, there are also several different sets of
covenants. However, one thing remains the same, they were written to keep some kind of uniformity to our
neighborhood. Not only does our community have covenants to live by, the City of Colorado Springs has
laws we must all abide by. This is where common sense comes into play.
The list below covers many problems that still remain in our community. If everyone were to use a little
common sense and common courtesy, we would all benefit from it and would enjoy this beautiful area in
which we live just that much more.
?¨ When you park a vehicle, please do not block the sidewalk. The sidewalk is city property, which
everyone has the right to use. If you notice your neighbor parking illegally, inform them. If that does
not work, call CSPD at 444-7000, unless it is an abandoned vehicle then call Code Enforcement
at 444-7891.
?¨ When you are making additions to your home, contact the Pikes Peak Regional Buildings
Department at 327-2880 and ask if a permit is required. One simple phone call can save you time,
effort, and a lot of frustration. You can also visit their web site at www.pprbd.org. It is full of
information and ways you can contact an inspection by e-mail.
?¨ When there comes a need to store large items, such as boats, cars, motor homes, etc., please make
sure to use a storage company that is zoned to house these items. No one wants to look out their
window and see any of these items parked openly in their neighborhood, and it certainly doesn?’t help
the aesthetic nature of the neighborhood. Besides, someone may be driving through the neighborhood
looking for a home to purchase ?— perhaps your home!
?¨ When it is your scheduled day for trash pickup, please put out your trash the night before in a secured
manner. With our strong winds we do not want to see trash blowing around the neighborhood. Trash
cans should be brought back in to your garage or storage area, out of sight of the public once your
trash is picked up.
?¨ When it is time to walk your dog, make sure you take a plastic bag with you and clean up after him/her.
Many people in our area do not own dogs and it is discourteous to them when you allow your pet to
relieve themselves on public or private property.
?¨ When you are leaving your house for any length of time do not forget to close your garage door,
through which anyone can gain access to your home. With several reported break-ins in the
neighborhood, do not compromise your personal safety or that of your family.
