As some of you know, last year the City of Fort Collins decided to move ahead with extending the Cathy Fromme trail from Wessex Road up the hill and to 38E/Harmony Road. There was also discussion of constructing an underpass for the trail at 38E, but at the time the underpass was not a required part of the trail extension.
Based on the latest update from the City, however, it seems that has changed. The two projects now appear to be tied together. With soaring construction costs, the underpass is expensive, estimated to be between $700K and $1M.
The City is going to track these prices to see if they come down a bit in late 2008 or early 2009. At that time, the City will determine if it can afford the underpass and trail extension in its 2009 budget.
