Tarleton Civic Association Annual Meeting
September 23, 2003

President, John Borsos, opened the meeting promptly at 7 PM at the Talleyville Fire House with the election of officers. The residents voted John Borsos as president, Brian Towne as Vice President, Lucy Winsor as Treasurer, and Judy Borsos as secretary.

Sewer Meeting
The NCC Sewer Department has committed to meet with us to discuss our community sewer problems on October 21th, 7 PM at the Talleyville Fire House. Please plan to attend.

BudgetAs a result of last year?’s heavy snowfall the dues will be $35.00 this year. We received $1,461.19 in snow plowing reimbursement from the state; however, we spent $3,825.00 for snow removal, salting and sanding. John also talked about the membership dues and what the CCOBH does for us. It was decided that we would donate $97.00/$1.00 per house which will be included in the annuals dues. The budget was approved.

Trash
Tarleton residents have been holding the price down for trash removal with Home Waste Management by calling them when they receive a price hike on their trash bill. If you get a bill that is higher the previous bill, call and tell them that Tarleton still has a contract with Home Waste Management. They are not to raise the price unless they advise us of the new rates. Home Waste still seems to be the best in the area for taking large amounts of trash for the price.

Delaware Solid Waste Authority
If you would like to join in the recycling effort, Delaware Solid Waste Authority will pick up recycling at your home for $6.00 per month. They will furnish bags and a bin. You can contract them by phone (302) 739-5361 or online at www.dswa.com.

Storm Drains
John reminded us to keep all storm drains near your residence cleaned out. This is especially important with all the rain we have been experiencing.

Guest Speaker Bob Valihura
Bob talked about the electrical problems resulting from the storm. He said many questions have been asked by the people of New Castle County. One of our residents suggested that they set up a neighborhood crisis system for future storms so residents could call and find out the status of how long it would be before their electricity is restored. Bob will be working on these questions and suggestions over the next several months. He stated that he would look into having Conectiv and the New Castle County Parks trim the trees in the parkland.

He also discussed sink holes. The New Castle County Conservancy is handling sink holes this year. There are 12 residents in our community on the list. We will probably not see any action taking place until next year. If you want quicker action, you can put up 25% of the cost. If you think you have a sink hole call Bob Valihura or John Borsos.

Guest Speaker Joann Rufft United Water Representative
Joann gave the history of United Water and talked about water conservation. She told us that they have 509 miles of water main. Some of the pipes are 70 years old. They flush the lines to clean any debris from the pipes. The water does contain fluoride.
She said we could save 25% of our water usage by turning the water off when brushing your teeth, by running full loads in your washer and your dish washer, clean sidewalks with a broom, be careful not to water the sidewalks and streets when watering your lawn, water your lawn in the morning, use a water device that measures the depth needed when watering your lawn, use the buddy system when watering during a drought, (the houses that have odd numbers water on odd days and the houses with even numbers water on even days), cover swimming pools when not in use, check for leaks, toilets have the most common leaks, do not use the toilet for trash, etc.

Talleyville Fire Company
There will be an Open House celebration at the Talleyville Fire Company on Sunday, October 12th. The fire company is celebrating their 75th anniversary.

Respectively Submitted,
Judy Borsos
Secretary
