The New Brick Entry signs on Derek Lane were built over the city easement and directly under the signs is the city's 24 inch water line that supplies a good portion of the northwest portion of Norman. The developer seeked a right to encroach from the city council accepting liability for all cost of moving the brick signs if the city had to fix the pipe for any reason. Two homeowners spoke at the city council meeting Feb 27, 2007 voicing concerns that later that liability will be passed to the homeowners through the home owners associaion and could result in thousand of dollars cost to pay the city to remove the signs and then pay to rebuild it. The council voted to make the developer remove the brick signs. Since then the developer has contacted the concened homeowners and the 2 sides are working on some type of bond or direct funds deposited to the HOA to protect our cost in the future since tearing down the brick signs would not be a win - win situation. Updates on this issue will be posted here. If this issue comes before the council meeting again, we need more supporters to make sure we don't lose are positions on this issue.
