Getting people involved

Posted in: SIPNA
When a plan to build an apartment complex between Park and the railroad recently came to light, people in the neighborhood were understandably upset. They appealed to SIPNA for support, which they received, and it appears that the citizens and SIPNA have put together a campaign that will force changes in the planned development.

Meanwhile, there are car break-ins, stolen cars, burglaries and all other kind of crimes going on within the entire SIPNA area and people don't seem to be that worked up. There are people in violation of city code, from cars parked in the front yard to houses practically falling in but there is no uproar.

Not that many of our fellow citizens attend the SIPNA general meetings, volunteer for the board, or volunteer for neighborhood watch. How do we get people motivated and participating without the threat of a new apartment complex in their backyard? How can we spur them to action to help eliminate crime and improve our neighborhood?

Maybe we have to get a developer to constantly troll the area and throw out fake plans for new developments????

I'm open to ideas.....
