TOONERVILLE TROLLEY NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
MEETING MINUTES-- MAY 19, 2005
ST. PHILIP?’S SCHOOL
Due to a scheduling conflict for the Chapel, there was a last minute change of meeting location. The meeting was held in the old school building next door to St Philip?’s. The President called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.; the meeting opened with Introductions all around.
Distribution & Approval of minutes from March & April.?—Dennis Lisack made a motion that minutes be approved as written; Paul Chism seconded the motion and the minutes were approved.
Standing Committee reports, including the Treasurer?’s report, were made available to the members; most were not discussed during the meeting. Mike Flynn did ask if anyone knew if the PIC chair had decided when to bring up the subject of truck traffic in Old Louisville.
Block Watch?—Jo Ann presented the ideas that Helga and she had come up with for the Annual Neighborhood Watch National Night Out Party. Their idea was to try to get more Tenants in the area involved in Neighborhood Watch by taking the party to them and have a block party on the 200 Block of E Ormsby and by having a speaker on Ky Tenant/Landlord Law. Jonathon Lowe volunteered to contact Louisville Tenant?’s Association and try to arrange for a speaker. The members agreed with the ideas presented and Jo Ann said that she would get the paperwork together to submit the application to IPL for permission to block the street. Wanda Stanley agreed to circulate a petition on her block for closing the street.
TTNA currently uses the term Block Captain for both TTNA and Block Watch purposes. They have slightly different purposes and the same block may have one person be a TTNA Block Captain and a different person be a Block Watch Block Captain. Jo Ann said she thought it was confusing and would like to see a different name used for the TTNA Block Captain. Dennis Lisack (tongue in cheek) suggested Block Head for the TTNA. Every present seemed to like the name. We now have TTNA Block Heads and Block Watch Block Captains.
Neighborhood Cleanup/Beautification ?– Jo Ann suggested that the TTNA have a reception at the next meeting to recognize and thank Nancy Woodcock for all her efforts in making arrangements with Brightsides for the Fall 2004 and Spring 2005 cleanups and for coordinating the tree planting efforts with Metro-Gov. The idea was unanimously agreed to.
Fundraising ?– Dale Tucker?—several ideas were discussed. While we liked the idea of T-shirts, it was decided that we could design and have them for purchase by the members, but this was probably not a great moneymaker. The idea of selling fall bulbs was brought up. Rick Tabb (not present) is suppose to be getting the information for us. Doing something for the St. James Art Fair was discussed, but nothing was agreed upon. Don Driskell suggested making note cards and selling them at the new Visitor?’s Center. Everyone thought this was a good idea, because it did not require a big capitol expenditure. Wanda suggested having a Trolley car on the notecards. Dale was to pursue the idea and report back at the next meeting.
Letter to property owners ?– Jennifer Hamilton/Jo Ann Macy?—Prior to the spring clean up?—130+ letters were sent to property owners on the 1300 Block of Floyd, 1400 Block of Brook, and the 1100 Block of First, telling them about their responsibilities as property owners to help clean the streets and sidewalks cleaned. Only 7 were returned.
Trash Cans ?– Jennifer Hamilton?—the check from Unseld?’s office should be coming within the next week or so. The new trash cans could be ready to install within a couple of weeks. Jennifer has been working closely with Ken Herndon to pick locations that will be acceptable to Metro Sanitation Dept.
Non-Profit Status--According to Jennifer, Phil has let her know that he does not have time to complete the Non-Profit Application. She has asked that he either mail or bring it to her or give it to Jo Ann.
New Business: Bus stop at 1st & Ormsby ?– Ken Herndon?—Ken discussed his efforts to get the bus stop at the corner of 1st and Ormsby relocated. At Ken?’s request, TARC moved the bus stop from the NW corner of 1st and Ormsby to the SW corner, by the church. The minister of the church wrote a letter to TARC complaining about the change and TARC moved it back. TTNA did not feel that we knew enough about the process of moving bus stops to endorse his petition as an Association, but encouraged members to sign as concerned citizens if they so chose. Dale Tucker, suggested that we should have TARC come and talk to our members at the next meeting. This was agreed to by all present.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:25.
