Toonerville Trolley Neighborhood Association
Meeting Minutes May 18, 2006
St Philip Chapel
NEXT MEETING IS JUNE 15 AT ST PHILIP CHAPEL AT 7:00 PM.
The meeting was opened at 7:03 pm by Dale Tucker as President Kevin was at hospital taking care of Rick and Phil was at Jan?’s archeological dig helping her.
The minutes were received and approved with unanimous consent.
Dale reported that the letter was sent to the IRS who indicated that we did not need to file with them and recommended that we be restated in good graces with the Secretary of State.
Adopt a Park?—JoAnn reported that three had passed the records check to be coordinators of the Toonerville Adopt a Park Project. Kevin Kouba will need to sign the Memo of Understanding with Parks. Jason Sissel is our contact at Metro Parks. Of course this led into more of an evaluation of assets we have at the park. The tennis courts are in pretty good shape but without lights. There is a huge field which would be good for softball, volley ball, croquet, picnics etc. There ought to be a horseshoe pit or two we reflected.
What if we had an Art Fair during the St. James?—call it an Un Art Fair and invite those that do not fit the image at St James. It was suggested that we could partner with the Brycc House youth, the Lava House? And music school at UofL. If we were serious about this, we would need to submit this to Parks and get it on the city calendar. Perhaps we could tie it to the Old Louisville Neighborhood Council.
Neighborhood Comings and Goings: Leanders is closed of course but it has been looked at by more than one prospective tenant who wants to make it another restaurant. The 3rd Street Caf?© has sold to another chef. The current/soon to be past owners hope to do something with 316 Ormsby?—a family style Italian restaurant perhaps. The Ruyard Kipling is for sale at a decent price. The Little Angels School is vacant and there is no movement toward developing the proposed condos at this time.
Bill Walsh thanked the Toonerville group for the cleanup help at St. Philip. Someone asked if the planting was completed but those at the meeting were not sure. Weren?’t there some bulbs available?
Don Driskell reported on the expansion of the Old Louisville House Tour?—the 1st weekend in December. It has been renamed the old Louisville Holiday House Tour and Festival and will be more than just a house tour. Three are 4 mid level sponsors with prizes. Rain Dog Salon will sponsor the Best Traditional Front Decoration. Bearwood Gardens will sponsor the Best Traditional Outside Look. Tour Louisville will sponsor the Best Decorated Neighborhood Association. Gary Kleier Architect will sponsor the People?’s Choice Award. The Conrad House will sponsor a gala. Friends of Central Park will have a ?“Red Tie?” dinner. Tour Louisville will have Caroling Tours. Churches are urged to participate.
62 Motor coach tour companies said they will bring something back to Old Louisville?—some type of tour. Major hotels are promoting Old Louisville. There will be/are ?“See Louisville Tickets?” which will get you into 13 major Louisville attractions?—cost is $35 and you can get them at the Galt House and at the Old Louisville Chamber of Commerce.
In June there will be a major press conference at the Conrad Caldwell House and it is hoped that Mayor Jerry Abramson, Governor Fletcher, and tourism chiefs will be promoting a new walking tour guide, Old Louisville tourism and other things related. Ipods will be available with the tour.
The meeting closed at 8:01 pm. Though the group was small?—(Where was everybody?) there were some great ideas tossed around and some good info shared.
