TTNA Spring Clean-Up 30 April 2005

DATELINE 30 APRIL 2005

On Saturday, April 30, 2005 several Toonerville residents showed up on an overcast and cool morning to help clean-up the neighborhood. The weather cooperated and rain stayed away while the group divided up into teams to clean-up several blocks of First, Brook and Floyd, as well as several of the cross streets like Ormsby, Woodbine & Magnolia. Sidewalks were shoveled, trash and leaves picked up, tree wells were weeded and overhanging branches were trimmed out of the pedestrian’s walk way. Additionally, part of Toonerville Trolley Park was mowed and cleaned up. All of this was completed by noon and then followed up with a pizza lunch from Papa John’s in Toonerville Trolley Park.

Many thanks to the folks who took a few hours out of their busy schedules to come out and help: Jo Ann Macy, Jackie Brown, Wanda Stanley, Dale & Gail Tucker, Nancy & Tom Woodcock, Helga Ulrich, Bill Casey, Dennis Lisack, Bill & Alice Walsh, Patti Horton and John & Jennifer Hamilton. Additionally, we couldn’t have finished in a timely manner without the tremendous help of the folks at Dismas House who came out to lend us several hands! We’d also like to thank Brightside for giving us clean-up supplies and Waste Management for picking up all the trash bags when we finished.

Remember that even if you weren’t able to participate in the organized clean-up, you can still help by making sure that the front of your property is in good order (and if you feel ambitious the front of each of your neighbors, too!). The front of our properties are the first impression people get in our neighborhood and we want to make sure that the impression is a good one! So take a few minutes and make sure that your grass is mowed, the sidewalk and front curb is clear of leaves and trash and the trees in front of your property are trimmed up so that they don’t catch people walking by in the face or scratch up the cars. If you have a dog, please make sure you pick up after them and not leave their remains in someone’s yard to clean-up. Keep in mind that you are responsible for maintaining your property from the middle of the alley behind your house to the middle of street in front – regardless of who messed it up. That includes the public areas.
