Friday, Jan. 6 and Saturday, Jan. 7
Crews will be moving concrete barriers and putting down temporary asphalt pavement along the westbound lane of S. Buchtel Boulevard between Josephine Street and University Boulevard. Throughout the day today and until 6 p.m. Saturday, westbound motorists will be detoured at St. Paul Street and directed to go south to Asbury Avenue then west on Asbury to University Boulevard.
This paving work is being done in preparation for shifting S. Buchtel Boulevard traffic onto this temporary pavement later this month while the drainage work and permanent roadway reconstruction work takes place between University Boulevard and Josephine Street.
Monday, Jan. 9
The reconstruction work along S. Buchtel Boulevard between Logan Street and Washington Street, postponed a week while work was done further west on S. Buchtel Boulevard, will begin Monday, Jan. 9. This section of S. Buchtel Boulevard will be closed until March while crews mill out the existing asphalt roadway, put in drainage lines, build the curb and gutter, build sidewalks on the south side of the road and grade and put down the permanent asphalt pavement.
While this work is being done, motorists will have to go east on Louisiana Avenue to Downing Street then south on Downing Street back to S. Buchtel to detour around the work.
When this section of roadway is finished, work will start between Downing Street and Franklin Street. The closure of this section of S. Buchtel Boulevard is scheduled for the spring of 2006.
The Cherry Creek bike path beneath I-225 will be closed Monday, Jan. 9, through Friday, Jan. 13, so crews can repair several concrete panels. Cyclists will be detoured along Kenton Street by the baseball fields to Dartmouth Avenue and then to Parker Road to reconnect with the bike path on the south side of I-225.
Saturday, Jan. 14
The right lane of eastbound Hampden Avenue will be closed between Ivy Way and I-25 throughout the day on Saturday so crews can do grading, curb and gutter and paving work to tie in the eastbound lanes of Hampden Avenue with the new on-ramp to southbound I-25.
* Upcoming and Ongoing Construction Activities
Throughout the next few weeks, there will be various overnight closures of the on-ramps and off-ramps in both the Colorado Boulevard and Hampden Avenue interchanges as crews continue to work on the permanent ramps at both bridge structures.
In late January or early February, traffic will be switched onto the permanent northbound I-25 off-ramp to Hampden Avenue. By moving traffic to the inside onto this new ramp, crews will have the room to build the permanent right turn lane at the top of this off-ramp. Grading and paving work also continues along the Hampden Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-25. Traffic is currently scheduled to move onto this permanent ramp by the end of February. After this permanent on-ramp opens, the eastbound Hampden Avenue to northbound I-25 left turn movement will be restored.
Paving work on both the northbound I-25 off-ramp to Colorado Boulevard and the Colorado Boulevard on-ramp to northbound I-25 continues, and in the next two months, traffic will be switched onto these permanent ramps. Once traffic is moved onto the permanent on-ramp to northbound I-25, work will begin on the cast-in-place retaining wall along this ramp as well as the detention pond in the northwest quadrant of the interchange. In the northeast quadrant, crews will start working on the Jewell Avenue cul-de-sac and detention pond after traffic is moved onto the permanent northbound I-25 off-ramp to Colorado Boulevard.
Overnight work on the pedestrian bridge for the County Line Road light rail station will require various I-25 closures between C-470 and County Line Road the nights of Monday, Jan. 16, through Wednesday, Jan. 18. On Monday night, northbound I-25 will be closed between C-470 and County Line Road beginning at midnight. On Tuesday night, all lanes of northbound I-25 will again be closed between C-470 and County Line Road beginning at 10 p.m. so crews can start setting the arches for the bridge. All lanes of southbound I-25 will be closed from County Line Road to C-470 on Wednesday night beginning at 10 p.m. so the arch installation work can be completed. All lanes will reopen by 5:30 a.m. the following morning. During the northbound I-25 closures, motorists should go west on C-470 to Quebec Street, north on Quebec Street to County Line Road and east on County Line Road back to I-25. During the southbound I-25 closure, motorists should go west on County Line Road to Quebec Street, south on Quebec Street to C-470 and east on C-470 to southbound I-25.
Demolition of Southeast Corridor Constructors' field office on Evans Avenue just west of I-25 is slated to begin the week of January 16. Once this building is removed, work will begin on the parking facility for the Colorado light rail station. Crews will also start excavation and removal work along the north side of Evans Avenue for the extra lane that will be built along westbound Evans Avenue later this year. This additional westbound lane will terminate at the light rail parking lot.
University Boulevard reconstruction work continues and later this month traffic will be shifted onto temporary ramps on the east side of the interchange. Traffic on both the northbound I-25 off-ramp to University Boulevard and the University Boulevard on-ramp to southbound I-25 will be moved to the outside, allowing room to build the permanent ramp connections to University Boulevard. The shift for the northbound off-ramp is tentatively scheduled to take place the night of Wednesday, Jan. 18, and the shift for the University on-ramp to southbound I-25 the night of Thursday, Jan. 19.
