Planners Solicit Uptown Residents to Identify Facilities and Infrastructure
First Community Meeting Scheduled for April 21 to Get Your Input
SAN DIEGO – The Uptown Planners community planning group needs your help. It is looking for local resident volunteers to assist with a community-wide project to identify existing City facilities, infrastructure, and land use in Uptown area neighborhoods. This is a joint project with the City of San Diego’s Planning Department, which is a test for collection of data on existing conditions of public facilities (such as fire stations and libraries), infrastructure (such as utilities), and land use (such as housing) in all communities throughout the city. The information compiled will be used to prepare a financing strategy for needed public facilities and infrastructure, amend or update Facilities Financing Plans, update the City’s General Plan, and conduct environmental analysis.
The Planning Department is using Uptown as a test community to streamline the collection process used in other communities. “We selected Uptown as the test because it is a leader among community planning groups,” said Planning Director Gail Goldberg. “Uptown has an up-to-date facilities finance plan and it is one of the most active and enthusiastic groups of community planners in the city. We need local residents to help with this project, because they are the ones who know their neighborhoods the best. They can help the City validate that the data collected is as accurate as possible.”
If you are interested in helping and you are a resident who lives between Park Boulevard and Interstate 5, south of the slopes above Mission Valley, and north of downtown (see map) come to the meeting and/or workshop listed below to participate in this exciting project.
