The guest speaker at the July 2nd meeting was Battalion Chief Roy Prince of the Los Angeles Fire Department who spoke about the replacement of the fire station #62 on Centinela Avenue. It is currently 2-3 years away but conceptual planning is now proceeding. The area covered is from Lincoln Blvd. east to the 405 Freeway, north to Santa Monica, south to Playa Vista. The latter will have its own fire station.
An election committee was appointed, consisting of Paul Thompson, Chair, Christie Boardman, Iva Maclennan and Rick Selan. The committee?’s objective is to develop procedures for electing a Board of Directors for the Association and develop an election process based upon the By-laws. They will report back in September on their activities.
Rick Selan gave a presentation on issues related to special needs students in the LAUSD, particularly in this area?’s schools. Ms Lisa Stevenson, a mother of a special needs student, gave information regarding the difficulties of obtaining needed services to meet these students?’ needs and asked for support from the group.
