The Traffic Calming Project for the area to the west and north of the Costco Warehouse on Washington Blvd. was reported to have suffered a delay because the Culver City Traffic Engineer had decided to engage a consultant for finalizing the project plans for Permit application to LA City Engineering. After interminable delays in the past, the project has been reactivated and is expected to be completed by mid-year. It was explained that the south-of Venice Blvd. residents had overwhelmingly expressed impatience at the Ven-Mar meeting of 12-7-2004 and urged the implementation of previously approved plans without further delay.
The recent increase in graffiti activity was discussed. Graffiti should be reported to Senior Lead Officer Craig White (cell 310-622-3972, 16748@LAPD.LACITY.org), preferably by sending a photograph via e-mail. Records of graffiti are needed as evidence. Subsequent removal free of charge may be requested by calling the City at 311 or, directly, by calling Graffiti Solutions at 310-204-2749.
Application forms were made available for "Utility Alley Lighting", which is available from the City free of any charge. Good lighting is a deterrent to crime.
The establishment of Penmar Neighbors, a Neighborhood Watch organization, and their message board at www.penmarneighbors.org was reported.
Neighborhood Watch packets were passed out. Neighborhood Watch street signs are not provided free, but have to be purchased. The police identify recovered stolen goods by looking for a driver license number marked/engraved on the item, preceded by the State acronym (CA for California licenses). Micro dot is a new marking technology.
The crime tracking website for our Pacific Division Community Police Station is Awarenet, www.awarenet14.org. Look for A25 & A45, for activity north and south of Venice Blvd., respectively.
Chris Williams agreed to propose the installation of new stop signs on Morningside at Glyndon and on Wade at McCure to the Venice Traffic Mobility Committee.
