Walgrove Avenue Elementary School has a brand new school library. The Community Development Committee of the Ven-Mar Neighborhood Association was involved with this project among others for this campus. You may recall the community meeting held at the School in February of last year, chaired by Rick Brown, jointly sponsored by the School and Ven-Mar. At that meeting the proposed physical improvements were presented and discussed with School Board Member Marlene Canter present.
Establishing the library was one of the projects embraced by the meeting. The library has now been completed with the aid of funds from the Wonder of Reading Foundation and from Friends of Walgrove. The next step is to make the library effective: “Reading Partners” are needed to work with struggling students on a one-to-one basis for one hour a week during school hours. Each volunteer has to take a training class provided by the Foundation (no exceptions).
Volunteer for this worthwhile service and help make an invaluable difference to another human being who is just starting to acquire the basic tools for becoming a contributing member of society! Please sign up by March 14.
