The City of Los Angeles Bureau of
Engineering Prop K division and the Commission for Children, Youth and their
Families have announced that the 2003-04 Proposition K competitive grant
process is now underway. Approximately $9 to $10 Million in competitive
grants will be available Citywide. All public agencies and non-profit
organizations located within the boundaries of the City of LA are eligible to apply.
Approximately $9 - $10 Million will be made available in the process to
improve and construct local parks and recreational facilities. Other
eligible uses include child care facilities.
The grant deadline is Friday, October 17, 2003 at 5:00 p.m.
Competitive grant funds can be awarded to improvement projects in the
following categories:
Regional Recreation/Educational facilities
Neighborhood At Risk Youth Recreation facilities
Youth Schools/recreation projects
Aquatic upgrades
Athletic fields
Lighting
urban greening
acquisition of parks/natural lands
All recipients of funds under Prop K must demonstrate an ability to provide
ongoing programming at the facility in order to qualify.
There are 3 technical assistance seminars to be conducted. Attendance at
one of the three is mandatory in order to be eligible to apply. You must
RSVP to (213) 978-1887 at least three working days prior to the seminar
date.
(Note by AU: as of this writing - 8/27/03 - it appears to be too late to give the three working days notice for attending the latest of the mandatory training sessions (on 8/29). However, there may be a way round this apparent impediment, by taking aboard someone who did attend one of the seminars.)
