Tips on making Villa Park Neighborhood better!

Mar 09, 2005

Do you want to be able to say you live in a nice quiet neighborhood? Here are some ways to be a good neighbor and help Villa Park be a better place to live.

Music.
Music, whether it?’s from your car, house, live band or portable stereo, should not be able to be able to be heard over 25 feet away. The only exception to this is by a special permit issued by the City.

Pocket-bikes, motorized scooters, go-carts, etc.
Personal, unlicensed motorized vehicles are illegal on all Denver streets, alleys, sidewalks, parks and pathways. Even though you don?’t have to license them, they are only legal when ridden on your private property. Do not allow anyone, especially children, to ride them on sidewalks, streets, bike paths, park grass, or other public places. Use common sense.

Fires
Open burning is not allowed in Denver except by special permit. You may only use a charcoal or gas grill to cook food, and remember that, even if they are legal to use, charcoal grills are heavy polluters. Open burning of wood or trash is by permit only with no exceptions. Chimineas, warming fires and the like, are not allowed. Report violations to Environmental Health at 720-865-5452.
Cars and trucks
Generally, you may have one licensed vehicle per licensed driver. Inoperable vehicles are not allowed. Park no closer than 5 feet from driveways. Cars should be parked on appropriate surfaces only (concrete, gravel, pavement, asphalt, road-base). Do not regularly park on grass or dirt areas. Unattended idling vehicles are not allowed and contribute to our pollution problems and you may get your car stolen. Vehicle repair businesses are not allowed in residential zones. When changing your oil, remember that used motor oil disposed of improperly, accounts for more than 5 times the Exxon Valdez oil spill every year!

Household Occupancy
You are allowed no less than 150 square feet for your head of household, and no less than 100 square feet (that?’s a 10ft by 10ft square) for every other person in the household. For example, if your house is 750 square feet, you can have up to 7 people living in your house including yourself (and you know that?’s crowded!). If your house if 1500 square feet, you can have up to 14 people living there!! Garages, patios, sheds and other outbuildings don?’t count in square footage.

Many people feel these allowances are too lenient. In Villa Park, the number of occupants per household has increased a lot in recent years. Remember that the more people there are, the more we need to cooperate with each other and be mindful of our impact on others. More people mean more noise, traffic, trash and congestion.

If you can keep these common sense city codes in your everyday habits, we will live in a great place.
