WHERE ARE YOUR TAX DOLLARS GOING IN 2004 FOR TRANSPORTATION

Mar 29, 2004

After July 1 when the new fiscal year begins for transportation for the City of Phoenix, work will begin on the 4 lane for Deer Valley Road from 7th Street to Cave Creek Road and on 19th Avenue from Deer Valley Road to Happy Valley Road.
Feasibility studies have begun on how to get up to eight lanes of traffic in both directions across the Salt River from the Papago Freeway on the Maricopa Freeway to the Superstition Freeway. Two lanes in both directions are proposed as HOV lanes. This section of Freeway currently carries the most freeway traffic in the Valley and is expected to double by 2020 with morw people traveling by transit or car-pooling. This is the reason why additional HOV lanes are proposed.
The city of Phoenix in putting into services their new RAPID buses. They are silver and green with a touch of purple with RAPID on the side. You can pick up this rapid transit bus at 19th Avenue and Union Hills or the park and ride station at Bell Road/I-17 with a stop at Metrocenter direct to The Capitol and to Central Avenue. Check your bus schedule for times and days. These buses are powered by natural gas and have reclining seats with headrests/overhead storage. They are built for comfort, speed and are lightweight in construction. Give them a try. Others are. Because of gas prices transit ridership has doubled in the Valley.
