With the warmer months, there has been a lot of building going on in the Village. As a friendly reminder from the Valleyview Voice the Village of Valleyview?’s building permits are issued through Franklin County. You must obtain a building permit for any of the following activities:
Building a New House
Building a Modular House
Building a Detached Garage/Pole Barn
Building a Deck
Building a Swimming Pool (above ground pools less than 12 ft in diameter do not need a permit)
Building a Sun Room/Porch
Building any structure greater than 144 sq.ft
Moving a Structure
Demolition of a Structure
How do you obtain a Building Permit?
First you must obtain a form from the Village Hall signed by the mayor to take with you to the county office. You will need to bring that form and other required documents to the Franklin County Development Department at 280 E. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215. The Development Department is located on the 2nd floor. At that time you will fill out a permit application and leave the documents with the building clerk. For new construction, the approval process takes about ten days. Complete applications for accessory structures, pools, decks, etc. can generally be processed the same day. If you have any questions you can contact the Village Hall at 279-5630 or the Franklin County Building Department at 462-3094.
Do you need Heating or Electrical permits?
Yes, electrical, heating, and plumbing all require separate permits. Generally the contractor performing the work applies for the permit as the owner?’s agent. In that way the county can verify the validity of a contractor?’s license. An owner may obtain a homeowner's permit if performing the work themselves after signing an affidavit to that effect. Heating and electrical permits are obtained through the Franklin County Building Department.
Where do you get plumbing permits?
Plumbing Permits can be obtained at the Franklin County Board of Health at: 280 East Broad Street, Columbus 43215 Tel: 462-3160.
