When Village Council members were asked about why they felt that the appropriations for their salaries had to be increased at the expense of the safety of the residents, the following replies were given:
Bob Graves ?– ?“I have saved this Village $3,000 by working in the parks. I spend my own money to purchase light bulbs and things for the parks.?”
Irene White ?– ?“I should get it for all the abuse I take from the website.?”
Steve Williams ?– ?“I am collecting my money to pay the lawyer bills I got from a certain person taking me to court.?”
Sue Huber ?– ?“Nada! None of your business.?”
The four council members that are being paid would not agree to take only $50 a month as payment for serving on council. They feel that it is in the best interest of the Village to cut the funding to the Police Department and take twenty-four 8-hour shifts of police protection away from the residents of this Village. With the police protection at reduced levels, does it now make sense to put the residents?’ lives and property at further risk? The council members were not asked not to get paid at all, just that they limit their income to $50 a month to help the Village through these tough financial times.
When Mr. Graves was told that he would have to pay income tax on his salary when the funds could have been appropriated towards the park instead, he chose not to listen. The four members of council are being paid on average $120 a month. Through June the members of Council had spent 78% of the money allocated for the ENTIRE year for their salaries. Selfishness on the part of those four Council Members is threatening your safety and security. Attend a council meeting or speak with your Council Members to let them know how you feel on the issue of your personal safety and security.
