The Village Voice November, 2001

Nov 28, 2001

Hello, Villagers,
We hope the shock of 9-11 is easing somewhat, and everyone is getting back to some
normalcy in your lives.

We welcome Ken & Gay Biggs to the neighborhood. They have purchased the Eason's
home at 1726 Gosnold Bluff Road, phone number is 853-5879. Please add them to your
directory. I will try to provide everyone with a new and updated directory listing for your
white binder by the end of the year.

It feels a little more like Christmas today, after the cold front moved thru. To help us get
into the Christmas Spirit, the Collierville Christmas Parade will be at 7:00 P.M. on Friday,
November 30. It will start at the intersection of Byhalia Road and Polo Run. This year's
parade will have twice the number of bands and floats as last year to celebrate its 25th
year. There will be 100 participants including bands from Collierville High School,
Germantown Middle School, Christian Brothers High School, Briarcrest Christian School,
Cordova Middle School, Houston Middle School, and Southwind Middle School. Float
participants include various girl scout and brownie troops, cub scouts, churches, day cares
and area businesses. The University of Memphis mascot "Tom the Tiger" will participate
in the parade, as will the Collierville and Memphis police mounted units, the Wolf River
Pipes and Drums, radio stations and the Southern Cruisers Riding Club with 12
motorcycles. Parade Grand Marshals are Collierville resident Christy Walker and her two
sons. Congressman Ed Bryant, State Sen. Mark Norris, and County Commissioner
Tommy Hart will also participate. Byhalia Road will close at 5:00 p.m. to prepare the
parade route.

Our own Village Christmas Social Committee is busy as Santa Claus preparing for
December 15th when we will gather at the Club House to celebrate our greatest social
event of the year. Look for notices in your mailbox soon announcing this exciting event.
We encourage everyone to come meet your neighbors and celebrate the Christmas
season together.

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day Ceremonies will be held Sunday, December 9, at 1:00
p.m., at the Collierville Town Square. In the event of rain, the event will be held at the
Church of the Incarnation gym, 360 Bray Station.

The Town of Collierville is planning on conducting a special census count early next year
to correct an undercount resulting from Census 2000. The federal census done last year
listed Collierville's population as 31,872. Most town planners see the real population to be
closer to 36,000. Correcting the undercount is very important because state and federal
funding is tied to population counts. Census forms will arrive early in January. Please fill
them out and return immediately.

Very few things are guaranteed in this world except for taxes and annual assessments.
You will receive your 2002 annual assessment statement by December 1, due date of
January 1, 2002 with a 10 day grace period. We still encourage all who can to pay the
assessment annually. Pat has prepared a letter to explain the details of your options. The
Finance Committee and the Committee Chairs did an excellent job of planning last year's
budget, keeping us solvent and starting to build our reserve for future capital expenses.
The assessment will remain the same for next year.

The fountain in the back lake is working right now. It has been off & on at different
times, and we have not quite figured out what is causing the problem. We are still
working on it.

The tree on the front lake has been removed, and we are waiting on the fence company to
replace 4 sections of damaged fence. Should happen soon.

We wish everyone a pleasant and fullfilling Thanksgiving, and a Merry Christmas.
