I'm writing to stress to everyone that it's imperative that we all look out for each other and report anything that appears suspicious to the police. The board cannot stress the importance of being proactive to maintain safety and deter crime in our neighborhood. I've actually had a person tell me that they didn't call things in that they thought were questionable before because they didn't want to risk bringing down the property values with increased calls from the area for police. Helloooo!!! What do you think undeterred crime is going to do?
Earlier this week, the Food Lion behind our development was robbed by a man carrying a shotgun; the robber allegedly escaped on foot into our development. I never saw the article on the Charlotte Observer's website and I only saw tid-bits of a story on the news, but a police car was parked directly in front of our house while the police helicopter circled overhead for quite a while.
This morning, we received an email from one of our neighbors who wanted to let us know that there were some "scary individuals" in front of their home making a huge racket around 3AM. At one point, there were six African American adult males and a female outside, one with a gun, yelling at each other. All of this occurred in the immediate vicinity of a parked police cruiser.
In the words of our neighbor, "If you hear something at night, call the police if you think it is unsafe. Don't leave it to anyone else to do".
I'd like to add to that: after you call the police, please send me an email or send an email to villagesofwexford@earthlink.net with information about what transpired so that we may get the word out to the rest of the other neighbors to promote awareness of what's going on around us.
Thank you,
Adrienne
