The City of Charlotte's Health and Sanitation Ordinance requires property owners to maintain their premises in a safe and sanitary condition. Violations include high weeds/grass, accumulation of trash or junk, junk automobiles, etc.
What you can do To report violations of the Health and Sanitation Ordinance call City/County Customer Service at 311.
* Enforcement of the Health and Sanitation Ordinance applies only to properties within the Charlotte city limits.
* Although not required, we encourage you to leave your name and phone number. This is helpful in the event the inspector has a question about your request. In addition, you will be called back with the results of the inspection.
What you can expect The inspector will identify the property owner using the Mecklenburg County Tax database. In addition he may also cite the tenant. A letter will be sent to the identified property owner/tenant describing the existing violations and action necessary to bring the property into compliance. Time for compliance may vary depending on the circumstances. The inspector may grant an extension (within reason) to the violator. If the violations are not corrected within the allotted time, the inspector may:
* Issue a citation
* Seek injunction relief through Environment
* Court
* Hire a contractor to correct the violation. If the property owner fails to pay the City for costs incurred by the contractor, a lien will be placed against the property.
Following is a list of the City's collection services to help you in complying with the Health and Sanitation Ordinance. Together, we can ensure that Charlotte's neighborhoods are places where we can live safely and comfortably -- places we're proud to call home.
Parking on Front Law Ordinance In 2004 the Charlotte City Council passed an ordinance to address parking on "front lawns." The ordinance bans parking in front and side yards of corner lots, except on approved driveways or parking pads. The law applies to single family detached, duplex, triplex and quadraplex dwellings.
Exceptions to the ordinance include special events or social gatherings and cases in which there is no parking on adjacent streets; the principal dwelling is less than 20 feet from the abutting street or the lot width is less than 25 feet.
Residents can report all violations to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Customer Service Center at 311. The response time for violations is expected to be one to three working days.
