McMeen Elementary School was lucky enough to receive a large amount of funds from the School Bond that passed in November of 2003. About $550,000 was put into the new Learning Landscape/Playground. The playground was completely leveled and three brand new play areas were installed for the ECE/Kindergarteners, the First and Second graders and the other for the Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders.
Enough grass was laid to accommodate a full size soccer field and football area. The children were able to work with the Art Teacher to incorporate their art in the walls of the flowerbeds. The PTA donated $10,000 toward additional outdoor musical equipment as well.
In addition to the playground equipment, the bond allowed for the entire interior of the school to be painted, new carpet in classrooms, some floors, double-pane windows throughout and a larger parking lot adding close to 30 spaces including a special drop-off area for parents and buses. Additional building updates were also made. A total of close to $1 million was spent on the school.
The McMeen PTA is currently trying to raise the $5,000 to put a lighted "McMeen Marquee" in the front of the school to inform parents, students and the community of upcoming events
