Garland Park

Oct 19, 2005

The Board found out that the City and County of Denver Parks and Recreation HAD targeted our Garland Park, by McMeen Elementary, as one of the several parks where they wanted to sell alcohol at large events. We didn?’t have very much time to act on this proposal, so the board met and discussed this issue. We felt this was not good for our neighborhood based on several reasons: no parking for large events, which would cause people to park within the neighborhood, Garland is a neighborhood park with a playground where many children play and the fact that McMeen is next to the park also draws many youth and children to the area to play. After talking with City Council and Parks and Recreation it was decided that Garland Park would be REMOVED from the list of parks to sell alcohol. There is now a new regulation passed that 3.2 beer is now no longer allowed in parks near schools or children's playground. These decisions will continue to keep Garland a nice neighborhood park.
