WHERE WERE YOU WHEN RITA LANDED?
It seems that most of WLP stayed
home, visited with neighbors and
reveled in the rare peace and quiet

SPEAKING OF PEACE AND QUIET someone?’s
yard maintenance crew was leaf blowing
at 6:45 this morning. Please have
pity on the late risers and morning mediators.

METRO MANIA: Now we know what it?’s
like to have public transportation
zooming through the heart of the
neighborhood. Was Metro preparing
us for what?’s ahead on Richmond?

IT?’S A JUNGLE OUT THERE: Susan Spalding
witnessed thugs breaking into her
neighbor?’s SUV. She may have prevented
them from taking the whole car instead
of the purse on the front seat. There
has been a series of car break-ins in
the area. Be careful and keep Susan?’s number
near the phone.

BOOKS AND BASEBALL: BOOKENDERS had
their biannual couples?’ event at
the lovely home of Joyce Lott. Jo
Cook?’s thought-provoking review of
Tortilla Curtain ended in time for
the group to watch the Astros win the
fourth play-off game. The next day,
staff at the Timmons Post Office led
customers in singing If you?’re for
the Astros clap your hands.
Thank you, Astros, for lifting our
spirits when it is much needed

EXTERIOR DECORATORS: Other spirit-lifters
are the Halloween displays
scattered throughout the neighborhood.
Don?’t miss the purple balcony on Bash
or the orange psychedelic spider webs
on Midlane. And, there?’s a cool
vintage Cadillac on Hackberry with
a Jerry Garcia decal, Newt Gingrich
bumper sticker and license plate that
tells us to B KYND. There is a story
there somewhere.

ANONYMOUS SOURCES
(Threaten jail time and you can have
their names.) have described HV?’s
latest addition - West Elm - as being
"like Pottery Barn with an edge."

THE GOOD NEWS is that Gloria and Sam
Silvero have graced WLP for four years.
The bad news they are leaving us
for an assignment in Nigeria.
Know that you will be greatly missed.

CHEF BRUCE is once again offering
his culinary talents and his front
yard for WLPCA?’s annual Fallfest
Fish Fry (Say it three times real
fast and you get extra tartar sauce).
Bring a dish if you wish; bring
yourself for sure. You do not want
to miss this fantastic, fun-filled,
fish-fried, fall-festive feast on
November 6. We?’ll celebrate the
Astros?’ victory together.
