Golf Carts: Wise Choice or Waste?

The Executive Decision to purchase two golf carts to give the West Point residents additional coverage of the CC&R's has met with controversy, pro and con.
The cons contend that it was a waste of money to pay $5,000 for the two carts, and that the money could have been spent better, elsewhere.
The pros say that they enjoy the fact that the board can give them coverage later in the evenings and on weekends, throughout the entire development, checking on those who thumb their noses at the CC&R's, parking commercial rigs in the streets, etc.
It has been my experience in driving the golf cart around the whole area, that I was able to see firsthand the damage from rainstorms, malicious damage to property, sprinkler heads that are off, causing loss of irrigation, blown down trees, etc. I was able to report these items right away, helping us to actually save extra money from damage to community property.
Most of the people I have met while out on my drives are glad to see that we are living up to our promise of wider coverage that we made last January at the Homeowners general meeting.
I feel that we will find that we will absorb the initial cost of the carts in savings over a period of time, much as the city absorbs the cost of equipment in repair of streets, etc.
I would hope that the property oweners of West Point will give us the chance to prove that we made a wise decision to purchase the carts, and the use to which we put them. They are not there to have "fun" with, as I can tell you, this job is not fun, it is a dedicated one to serve the rest of the property owners.
For those who have not seen the carts out, we have had to wait until they are completed to meet the licensing standards to be street legal. We have recently received a windshield for the second cart, and it should be out on the streets in the near future.
