Spring Community Garden Plans

There are three Community Garden plots in Walnut Hill.

- on West Vliet, northside, 2800 block
- on North 35th, southside, 1700 block, S of Lisbon
- on North 28th, eastside,e 1900 block, S of Brown

The first site has been actively gardened for several years by area neighbors.

The second site was errected in 1999 by the Walnut Hill Residents Association, fenced in and landscaped with a nice sign and actively gardened. It is hoped that we can expand this plot to the north this year.

The third site was targeted for a youth group, but while it is fenced in, it was not actively gardened last year. We will be putting out flyers in the area from Lisbon to North, 27th to the RR tracks soon. If there is enough interest, we would like to see this become an active community garden too.

Raising a portion of your own vegetables and fruit does much for your own sense of well-being and is great for getting the kids involved too. And it saves money at the grocery store.
