It's time to get back together to name the No-Name Neighborhood Group!
Our next monthly neighborhood information-sharing meeting is October 6, 7 p.m., 910 Longs Peak Avenue, at the Longmont Senior Center. (Location to be confirmed....) Our "naming committee" agreed to conduct some research into possible historic references to various plats in our neighborhood, according to the boundaries defined at our organizational meeting August 18 that might help us decide what we want to call ourselves. If I have it correct, the boundaries of our neighborhood are as follows: Lincoln Street (both sides), 9th Street (South side only), 3rd Avenue (North side only), and Sunset (East side only). If I don't have it right, please set me straight ASAP.
So, What's On Your Mind?
We need to hear from you prior to our next meeting to create an Agenda. What's on your mind? What have you been thinking about with regard to our neighborhood? What does it mean to build a "true neighborhood"? Funds are available to host a Block Party, coupons are available for "x" number of half gallons of ice cream for an Ice Cream Social, and Mini-Grants of up to $200 are available if you map up to two blocks for any social event or project that benefits our "block." And that's just for starters! Progress of any kind needs to be celebrated, Robin says, and she suggests a Naming Celebration. Let's put that on the Agenda! What facilities might be available in our NNNeighborhood -- schools, churches, etc., for our social activities? Please share your suggestions, contact info, and so forth.
HENA Wins $100,000 Revitalization Grant
Robin McGuire received a copy of the Historic Eastside's Neighborhood Association's (HENA) newsletter with their tag line: "A neighborhood is preserved one house at a time," which she handed off to me, your erstwhile Newsletter Editor. On Saturday, October 1, HENA will celebrate their big win -- a $100,000 Revitalization Grant -- with a picnic (read: BIG PARTY!) at Collyer Park. The gathering will kick off a series of public meetings to help determine what's important to folks in their neighborhood. (FYI: HENA meets the 2nd Thursday of the month, 7:30, at the City Council Chamber Room.)

Getting to Know You
Did my best to decipher the handwritten e-mail addresses each of you wrote down on the Contact Sheet/Mailing List at last month's meeting, however, I may not have gotten it right. If your e-mail bounces back, I'll try to reach you by phone for clarification. Please feel free to forward the names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of other neighbors that you know of who were unable to attend the Aug. 18 meeting. If you rent and have a great landlord, like I do, please include their contact information as well. Also, I hope to have compiled a mailing list to be available at our next meeting. Be thinking about whether or not you wish to have your contact information available in a printed Members Booklet.
Also, do we have any baby-sitters in our neighborhood? What other services are available to us right here in our own neighborhood? What other news do you have to share?
Easiest way to reach ME is via e-mail: JeanieBrooke@aol.com, but also by phone: 303-774-8442 when I'm not online.
