Steele Elementary School Home Tour Returns Saturday May 19th!

The Steele Elementary School's Home Tour, the major money-raising event of the year, will not only help fund music and arts programs at the school, but this year will raise funds for the Osnova Schola Vares school in war-torn Bosnia. Principal Gail Archambeau explains "?…we wanted the tour to extend beyond our neighborhood and touch a community far away. Eldijana (Eldijana Bjelcic is a Secretary at Steele) already has a deep connection to Vares (her Aunt still teaches there; Vares is north of Sarajevo). Our affection for her made choosing which community to help easy." According to Sharon Lloyd, the house
tour chair, "We've invited the children to write letters to the students at Vares, which Eldijana will translate. We'll be sending photos of the Steele kids as well as Polaroid cameras so the students in Bosnia can send pictures of themselves back with their letters." Each featured home on the tour will have a collection jar and photos of the Vares school students. The Home Tour is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 19th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tours of the 1913 Art Deco-style Steele School will be included, along with a spring plant sale and barbecue. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 at Preferred Properties, 1041 S. Gaylord, at First Bank of Cherry Creek at 1st and St. Paul, or at Steele School, 320 South
Marion Parkway or for $12 at the school on the day of the tour.
