JANUARY DEADLINE APPROACHING TO REQUEST FREE STREET TREES:
In the holiday rush, don?’t forget to send in your request for shade trees to plant along your street! January 18th, 2002 is the deadline for requesting street trees through Denver Digs Trees. Call 303/722-6262 for tree request forms. The benefits to your neighborhood include the release of fewer harmful hydrocarbons from cars parked in the shade, and a reduction of 3-6 degrees in asphalt generated heat in areas with shade trees. Denver Digs Trees also needs volunteers to check sites in February. Denver Forestry staff conducts the three-hour training on Saturday, Feb. 9 or Sunday, Feb. 10. Volunteers will be trained to check sites where people have requested street trees. The inspection process assures the trees are spaced with room to grow to a healthy, safe maturity. Help beautify our neighborhood while at the same time improving our quality of life.
