WASHINGTON PARK PRESERVATION AND ENHANCEMENT
Council Meeting
P O Box 1233
Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33311

March 1, 2007

Our meeting opened at 7:10pm with prayer from Elton Marshall.

Yvonne Sumlin gave the roll call. Idella Wright, Elton Marshall and Julia Porter present.

Minutes from January 4, 2007 were read by Julia Porter. Elton made a motion to accept the minutes. Idella seconded the motion. We voted and the minutes were accepted.

Ivette Spence brought a complaint from the residents on half way and rooming houses in our Neighborhood. She has contacted Broward Sheriff?’s Office and Ted Vitale. BSO gave her a copy of the Neighborhood Preservation and Enhancement page addressing rooming houses but it was not for Washington Park. We reviewed the process for referring a violation to the Council according to our Plan. We also discussed that the plan states rooming houses are prohibited.

We discussed people who came into our Neighborhood during Sistrunk Festival setup loud speakers and blocked traffic. Our storm drains also need to be cleaned. Yvonne said we received the plans for Dunkin Donuts. It will be built on Sunrise Boulevard and Martin Luther King Boulevard. We had no issues with the plan.

We discussed writing a letter to our County Commissioner and Chief Jenne regarding the ongoing problems in our Neighborhood. The items we want to address are:

Half-way and rooming houses
Dirty streets from automobile repairs being done
Plans for new homes (we want to know if the soil for the foundation is still be checked, because we see homes with cracks)
We want a list of homes that are not owner occupied (we want to send a copy of our plan to the owners)

We still have vacant lots that are being dumped on.

We discussed ways to get residents to come out to greet them. We want to encourage them to participate in the Neighborhood and Association.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30pm.
