WASHINGTON PARK CIVIC ASSOCIATION INC
P. O. Box 1233
Fort Lauderdale, Fl. 33311
October 9, 2003
Our meeting opened at 7:36PM with the Lord?’s Prayer.
Lt. Fleming said that at our last meeting speeding and parties were a concerned, they were addressed. He wanted to know if we noticed a difference. He gave the crime report: ladders were taken from a construction site, a stolen car recovered from Fort Lauderdale, two petty thefts, and a refrigerator was taken. He asked if there were any questions or concerns. Eugene said that on NW 9th Place that people are hanging around a vacant house. A gray house all boarded up on NW 7th Court in the 2800 block also has people hanging around it. Lt. Fleming will check on these two properties.
Joy from Zoning Code Services said there is a man doing mechanical work on NW 7th Street. She has spoke to him and he is still doing work. Eugene will talk to him and if no change will refer it to BSO.
Charlie Klinger is the Senior Enforcement Officer Code compliance Division at 954 468-3569x5277. He brought out brochures regarding Code Violations. He said that notices are given out with Orange Flyers. When we see LC spray painted with a date, it means that if the land is not cleared by that date the County does it and then bills the owner on their property tax bill. He said they still have free paint but no white. He left applications for people who want paint. The paint is for the exterior of the home. If it is used inside it has an odor and takes longer to dry. Delivery takes three to four weeks.
George Barrett from Integrated Waste apologized for missing the last meeting. He got the dates mixed up. He said that all complaints go to him. Our neighborhood is looking good. He is here to enforce the swale violations. You have 14 days to correct swale violations. The fine can be up to $2500.00 for violations. They use blue paint in the street for violations and door hangers on the door or nearest entrance to the home. Bulk violations can be $250.00. We can use the trash transfer station on 6th street four times a month. We can sit trash out in swale for one day before pickup. Don?’t sit trash behind the sidewalk because they can?’t come on private property. Bulk trash should not be out more than 24 hours before pickup. If he is there for a violation and you start to move it he can take a picture and waive the fine. If he is there to clear the bulk trash there will be a fine. If the fine is not paid it will go on the property tax bill. We want George to come back out and explain this information again. Caroline Penn suggested to past out the information at the Christmas Party. We want about 100 lunch boxes for our new homeowners.
Eugene read a letter about Annexation a memorandum from Sandy Harris Executive Director Broward County City Manager. He said that mail out ballots would not be possible by December 31, 2003. They may be able to mail out the ballots for a vote by March 2004. The Annexation would be effective in September 2004. This means for example if Fort Lauderdale annexes Franklin Park they can do a mail out ballot to annex Washington Park. The ballot would be to say when, not if they will annex us. He had a blue print of a proposal to build a building for Senior Citizens on NW 8th Street. Our residents over 65 will have first preference. The cost construction will be $850,000.00 to $900,000. We would like to see it open by the end of next year. The building will be two stories with elevators. George Barrett said they are in the process of trying to help senior citizen?’s who need help to clean up their property. He asked for help from the Association with the work. Mrs. Jiles asked how do we get money for a Senior Citizen?’s building and not a building for the children at the park. Eugene said land is the problem. If we could get the land we can get a building. They are looking at trying to move things around at the Park to build a building.
We need 15 volunteers to work on the Christmas Party. Mrs. Jiles has tablecloths for the party. The party will be at Franklin Park Recreation Center. Caroline Penn said she will be at another party, but she will help with planning and coordinating. We will be selling raffle tickets for a Christmas Dinner. Tickets will be $2.00 a ticket or 6 for $10.00. The winning ticket will be picked at the Christmas Party.
Mrs. Jiles took the names of two of our sick residents and the Sunshine Committee will contact them.
Taxes are going up but your property value is going up also. Mrs. Penn said she is having Eye Surgery and wanted out prayers. She may not be at the next meeting. Mrs. Kemp said she is still having problems with the sprinkler system. Eugene said not to sign off on the contract for the contractor to get paid. Mrs. Jiles thanked the Association for their support of the Charmettes program. She raised the most money. Mr. Habbersham invited everyone to his birthday party.
We collected $65.00 in dues.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:00PM.
