Our meeting started at 7:06pm with prayer by Ivette Spence-Brown.

October minutes were not available due to Hurricane Wilma (no power and telephone service). Ivette will make flyers made for our Christmas Party and pass out to the residents. She welcomed first time guests and members. Mrs. Smith said we have a phone tree to call residents to remind them of the meeting.

FEMA emergency food stamps are available. You can apply at the Festival Flea Market at Sample Rd and the Turnpike. Also at the Nob Hill and Commercial Boulevard the old Sunrise Musical Center. We discussed the qualifications for the food stamps. FEMA telephone number is 1 800 621-3362. If you already receive food stamps you don?’t need to apply.

Perry E. Thurston Jr. is running for State House Representative District 93. Chris Smith term limit is up. He attended Morehouse College. He coaches little league basketball. His focus is the youth. He worked on ending Starburst. He wants to do a better job than Chris Smith although he has done a good job. The Legislation is trying to change Medicaid. They are working on Jacksonville and Broward County to make changes first. He feels we need to deal with all the issues. Representatives should represent our Community in Tallahassee. Other Representatives have filed bills based on the Community that they represent. A generator is going to be a necessity in the future. The County is meeting to try to help people with roof problems. We need a list to help people in need in an emergency. He is glad when he sees Law Enforcement directing traffic when the lights are out. He is President of Black Lawyers, Sistrunk Festival and he is involved in the Community. He asks for our consideration in the next election. He is a Democrat although sometime the Democratic Party hasn?’t represented our Community best. He apologized for not contacting our President and asking to come to the meeting.

Ivette talked about CERT. She wanted people to attend for disasters like Hurricane Wilma. She went to Holiday Park where they were distributing water and ice. Other Homeowner Associations had representation but we didn?’t. The City of Fort Lauderdale sent people out to check on people on the beach and a week later to check on people on the Westside of town. To receive compensation for loss of wages call the disaster relief number at 954 625-3000.

One resident asked what to do with shingles that fell off during the storm. This issue was referred to the Enhancement District Council. The Council didn?’t meet due to Hurricane Wilma there was no power at the Mills Center. Mrs. Smith made a suggestion to create a Benevolent Committee to help with the sick and shut in. Residents could donate whatever amount of money they wanted to. Mrs. Giles is head of the committee.

Deputy Murphy gave the crime report:

v 4 burglaries of homes

Yvonne Sumlin met with the South Florida Water Management District who is working on a plan to clean up the New River. They are checking on water quality and bank erosion. The next meeting is tentatively scheduled for 12-15-05.

It has been suggested that our new building be dedicated to Eugene Franklin. Mr. Elton Marshall made a motion. Mrs. Mary Glee seconded the motion. We voted unanimously to dedicate the building to Eugene.

Mr. Marshall will be donating educational gifts for the kids at our Christmas Party. He will also distribute the gifts. A motion was made to get money from the treasury to get decoration for the Party and plagues. The plagues will be for members who have served throughout the year. The President will purchase the materials and bring the receipts to the Treasurer for reimbursement. The motion was made by Yvonne and seconded by Ms. McIntosh. We voted to accept the motion.
