The meeting opened at 7:05 with prayer by Ms. Spence-Brown. The minutes were accepted and approved as written. We welcomed new member Winslow Gastin.

Update on Lt. Fleming:

v No home burglaries during Christmas
v 2 church burglaries during holidays
v 1 car break in
v 1 grand theft
v 1 stolen bicycle
v 18 felony arrests
v 1 drunk driver
v 39 moving citations
v 4 truants picked up

Ms. Giles questioned Lt. Fleming about speeding and motorized bikes. He wants us to put information in our newsletters to ask parents to please keep children out of the streets. Lt. Fleming will make sure we have speed limit signs and will set up the radar gun. Ms. Giles asked for the procedure to get speed bumps. Ms. Sumlin questioned semi-trailers being parked in the neighborhood. Lt. Felming will look into it. Mr. Habersham said teenagers are on the corner of NW 28 AVE and NW 7 CT and won?’t let motorist by. Ms. Smith wants more visibility on NW 7 CT to try to stamp out undesirables. Ms. Giles said kids are fishing in the river again. Lt. Fleming wants the park attendants to be more aggressive.

Arts and Crafts festival has been cancelled because of unforeseen difficulties, however our President wants to know if the community still wants to do the festival. Ms. Giles questioned if we could have more than one vendor of the same product. Ms. Sumlin suggested we have more people on the committee and each one have a specific duty. She also suggested re-scheduling it for the spring. Our treasurer already made the down payment on the insurance. We decided to drop the issue for now.

Neighborhood Council: NO REPORT

Ms. Giles suggested getting in contact with new residents to try to get with the new residents to try to get them involved. Ms. Sumlin advised that she delivered a welcome package with dates of all of our meetings but no one attended. It was stated that people didn?’t want to come because there are two associations and they didn?’t want to get involved in the conflict. Ms. Porter suggested we personally invite people and tell them we want their input. Our president will look into getting more signs in the neighborhood advertising our monthly meetings and speak to Mr. Franklin to see how many signs we already have.

Sick and Shut In: Ms. Giles asked the president if you have to be a member of the association to be a recipient of goods. She said yes.

Property taxes can now be paid online by March 31, 2005 and seniors can get additional exemptions.

The Sun-Sentinel?® will offer a grant to the community but we have to identify what we want it applied to. Some suggestions were literacy, computers, seniors, and a tutorial program. Deadline is March 4, 2005.

If any members are interested are interested in the C.E.R.T. program another class is coming up March 2 through April 20. If interested get in contact with our president.
