The meeting started at 7:10pm with prayer by Henry McNair.
Joy from Code Enforcement said they are still working on the Port a Potty on NW 8th Rd. The wooden fence has a permit. The permit was applied for prior to the Neighborhood and Enhancement Plan being approved. They have free paint the colors are Turquoise, Gray and Terra Cotta. They are not able to deliver to each home any more. They can bring it to one home for distribution. She will give the forms to Ivette for the paint. They are still working on the problems on 8th Place and the dumping issues.
Nilda provided information on the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Broward County. They work to try to keep people 60 and over in their homes. They want to be a one stop shop for senior care. If they don?’t provide the service they will do research to try to refer the person for the help they need. If someone is being abused call 1 800-96ABUSE.
Rosemary gave out flyers for Elderly and Veterans Services Division. Everyone that comes to them is assigned a case manager to help them decide what services they are in need of. They also work with the Elderly and try to keep them in their home.
Neighbors 4 Neighbors and Volunteer Broward will help put up shutters for seniors that need help. They don?’t have any money to purchase the shutters.
Chief Fondo said they have been working on the drug problems in our Neighborhood. They have had help with Officers from other areas. He said that people have reported things taken from their cars. Keep your car locked. We can also call BSO if we think some is being abused. When you call 800-96ABUSE they are contacted. Elder Links is an Elderly Referral Program. If we call for an Officer and no one shows up, he asked that we call him. We discussed the drug problems in our Neighborhood. We are encouraged to call and give as much information as possible for the Officer to identify the person. We questioned why trucks parked in area are not ticketed since there is a restriction. The signs are posted at entrance ways. A resident questioned an incident with a young man. The Chief will check into it and contact her back. He gave the crime report, but it included other Neighborhoods.
Ivette said there is a summit at the Signature Grand on 01-31-07 from 08:00am to 05:00pm. The cost is $10.00 for seniors 60 years old and over. It is $25.00 for all under. She and Yvonne Sumlin will be attending.
Vic from Lafayette Hart Park asked for a donation of $30.00 for a tournament in February. They will use the money to buy refreshments for the children. Elton Marshall made a motion to donate the money. Mary Glee seconded the motion. It was voted on and accepted.
Thurston our State Representative was supposed to be here. He was unable to attend due to a meeting in Tallahassee about Insurance. We need to check on a straw ballot to see which City Residents want to go to. We discussed options of going to the different Cities.
