I am in agreement with your Friday editorial, "Tags no place for slogans." Somehow, the examples you cited as elements not belonging on state-issued vehicle license plates left out the Florida orange, which, by design, adorns our standard tags. Is this not a glaring example of commercialism on tags for a private industry?

You speak of the extra-charge vanity plates that carry slogans and messages, but what of the orange, which we taxpayers can't even pay extra not to have on our tags? One would wonder why the orange deposed a silhouette of Florida on our plates several years ago.

I suppose a palm tree would aptly depict the breezy Florida lifestyle for the state's tags. But, then, there's no profit in promoting palm trees. I think you've omitted the biggest offender from your editorial.
