Waveland Park Neighborhood Association

WPNA Notes

Apr 13, 2004

The WPNA board is working on a new street banners project, to get neighborhood identification information in some of our major traffic corridors. Details will be at the WPNA table at the Spring Fling on April 21.

THANK YOU to Renda Lutz, Des Moines Register reporter and author of the popular ?“Meet Me on the Corner?” column, for her program at the last Fall General Membership Meeting. Her presentation of historical information, archival photographs of Waveland Park, and tips on how to research the history of your home was greatly appreciated.

Thanks to neighbor, Rick Miller, and former neighbor, John Lynch, for the award-winning chili at the Des Moines Neighbors chili cookoff last fall. It?’s one of those simple but vague recipes that you just have to have good taste buds to get it right. It?’s all in the seasoning.

WAVELAND PARK CHILI RECIPE
1 lb.hamburger
1 can red beans
1 can tomato juice
garlic powder (to taste)
chili powder (to taste)

Hold the future of Waveland Park in your hands. The Waveland Park Neighborhood Plan will be formally presented to our organization at the Spring Fling on April 21. This plan was prepared through a joint effort of the City of Des Moines Community Development Department?’s Neighborhood Development Division and the Waveland Park Neighborhood Association. The approved plan becomes an amendment to the City?’s Comprehensive Plan and an ongoing guide affecting future policy decisions for the neighborhood. This document includes information on the neighborhood including its description, history, demographics, housing data, neighborhood issues and goals, our action plan, a glossary, and details on land use and zoning.
