hi all
I want to welcome all the new memebers. It was a pleasure to meet you all.
We had 4 girl scout troops come.
We had a good time. McGruff showed up. He worked hard that day at the fair and he could not talk.
But we all loved him anyway.

We also had another surprise as well. Sheriff Luttrell came to the meeting as well. He encouraged the girls to stay in the girl scouts.
He spoke about the Sheriff academy and what you get to learn and do. It is to late to start the fall class. there will be a Spring class.
the classes are long but that is because there are than many departments in the sheriff department. It is well worth going to. you learn what the sheriff goes through as well as the court system and all other kinds of things.

Officer Amber had answered all kinds of questions from the girls. questions from if she has ever arrested anyone before to how much all her gear weights, from her bullet proff vest to her handcuffs. She spoke about the Explorers group she has. they are a nice bunch of kids.
Explorers help the Sheriff?’s Office in many ways. They assist with duties in various divisions of the department, especially community outreach activities. Explorers receive ?“hands-on?” training which prepares them for careers as Sheriff?’s Deputies, Deputy Jailers or other types of law enforcement occupations. Here are the qualifications for membership:

Be between 14 and 20 years of age
Have parental approval
Pass a criminal history background check
Pass a physical assessment
Maintain a 2.0 grade point average in every school subject
To join: One-time application fee of $20.00--yearly dues of $10.00
they go on calls with her. They came out and helped hand out fliers for the September meeting. We were able to cover the whole subdivison in a few hours with their help. We had hot dogs, etc afterwards. There are few that are going to become sheriffs in the future. some are not sure what they are going to do.
after the meeting, the kids got pictures of themselves with McGruff.

We have clean up on September 13th at 9am. Clean up the top of Waverly Farms Rd and Duncan.
We will meet at the store at 9am. Vic had mowed one section and picked up some trash so it won't be to bad to do Saturday. If you want to help out, we will see you there.

Do not forget the community yard sale on Sept. 19, 20 and 21st.

October meeting is Halloween safety.

See you at the next meeting. At Lucy Baptist in the gym. that is behind the church.
