BOARD MEETING MINUTES

Date: Thursday, 19 January 2006

Site: Valaida Fullwood¹s home at 630 Grandin

Time: 6:30 8:00 pm

Board Members Present: Brian Nolen (President), Peggy Howey (First Vice President), Thomasina Massey (Second Vice President), Anita Mobley (Financial Secretary), Gloria McClain (Treasurer), Valaida Fullwood (Recording Secretary), and Chris Rogers (Corresponding Secretary).

Main Discussion Topic: Setting goals, identifying tasks and planning meeting agenda for the neighborhood association in 2006.

Highlighted notes from the Board discussions
?Ÿ Board members weighed the pros and cons of holding bimonthly meetings, rather than monthly ones. For now, it was agreed to continue to meet monthly and to take measures to reinvigorate resident attendance and participation (e.g. add more social and family-oriented activities like a holding a picnic on the Greenway and serving pizza, spaghetti, baked goods and other foods at meetings.
?Ÿ Members discussed pros/cons of inviting new residents of Lela Court to join or at least participate in WHCA activities. Hurdles include questions about whether Lela Court residents will be willing to pay the WHCA membership fee in addition to their own fees and whether they could have voting rights.
?Ÿ Investigate options for holding meetings at venues other than St Mark. Possible options include Phillip O. Berry Center, Betty Rae Thomas Center and the Wadsworth House. (Valaida will inquire about WH; Peggy will inquire about other sites)
?Ÿ To encourage the payment of WHCA dues, the Board will use the Park and Rec passes that have been distributed Passes will go to the first 25 residents who sign up or renew their membership.
?Ÿ Resume monthly 50-50 drawing at WHCA meetings (Gloria and Anita agree to initiate the drawing when regular organizers are absent).
?Ÿ Members agreed to propose periodically topics/presenters for WHCA meetings as well as items/information to highlight in the newsletter.
?Ÿ The proposed baseball park and 3rd Ward park were topics of interest. February 16 is a public meeting on the baseball park (Chris agreed to identify a presenter, possibly Darrel Williams or others familiar with the proposed parks).
?Ÿ The group agreed to secure the Wadsworth House again for a December 2006 social and to invite Tom Hanchett to present at the event again (Valaida will follow up on both).
?Ÿ Organize a neighborhood picnic on the Greenway or in Frazier Park.
?Ÿ Organize a neighborhood clean-up, perhaps in conjunction with a picnic.
?Ÿ Inquire about benches and trashcans for the Greenway.
?Ÿ Board members agreed that they will pursue plans to acquire signs that announce the monthly WHCA meetings. Details must be addressed a subsequent meeting.
?Ÿ The Board agreed to meet as a group periodically (perhaps quarterly) to set goals, plan activities and review accomplishments.
?Ÿ Pursue changes in check signing authority with the bank (Gloria will coordinate with Shirley and Brian).
