We have had several residents ask the Board of Directors to place abridged minutes of the monthly board meetings in the community newsletter.
Abridged minutes of the Westbury Civic Club Board of Director?’s
Meeting on Wednesday, October, 27, 1999
PRESENT: All except Brian Dore
MEMBER PRESENTATIONS:
1. Two residents presented concerns about a house with poorly maintained swimming pool and the lack of update from the WCC. While their concerns were being addressed with the City, however notification back to the concerned residents fell through the crack; for which the board apologized.
2. Judith Jones of Precinct 287 made a presentation regarding the potential low income housing for the east side of S. Post Oak at Gasmer. WCC Board of Directors voted to join Precinct 287?’s lawsuit as a plaintiff committing to pay 10% of the attorney fees up to a maximum of $1000.00
3. The Deed Restrictions Review Committee gave a report on the recent survey where approximately 1500 surveys were received back, showing a strong interest in this topic. They also presented the estimated budget to complete this important project, which was approximately $17,000.
TREASURER?’S REPORT: Presented and accepted
MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Presented and accepted
Cecil Toombs made a motion that we include in the Crier a set of abridged minutes of these meetings to better inform the membership and residents. Greg Egan seconded that

FLOOD CONTROL: All fine. Not much rain. Ditches are well maintained by HCFCD.
RESIDENTIAL MEMBERSHIP: In B. Dore?’s absence, D. Kennedy presented P.Baker?’s report showing membership being up compared to this time last year; 1907 compared to 1857.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP: Added 2 more business members. Down 2 members year to date. St. Luke?’s Health Center at 9125 Hillcroft & N. Braeswood is offering Westbury residents flu shots for $5 during November.
CANDIDATE?’S NIGHT: R. Baker reported as follows:
It was a success in that most candidates came to speak in Westbury; it was a failure in that very few residents came out.
A tape was played of a message left on the WCC answering machine from a candidate?’s office the morning of the candidate?’s night. The tape recording message was asking
about a call the candidate had received from Chris Hageney expressing that Westbury?’ Candidates?’ Night had been cancelled. The board expressed concern about this message
and its implication to Chris. Chris claimed that there was a misunderstanding-that he had called several candidates to say that he was not chairing the event. The Board of
Directors asked why he felt that was necessary unless it was to cast a cloud over the event. The Board expressed great dissatisfaction with the way Chris has conducted
himself in sabotaging this candidate?’s night and his general mode of operation. A motion was made by Randy Baker and seconded by Edith Smith that Chris Hageney be asked to resign for gross misconduct. The vote was 11 for, 2 against and 2 abstaining; however, he declined to step down.
GENERAL ITEMS:
1. We were encouraged to attend the PIP meetings with HPD on the 4th Tuesday of every month.
2. The Holiday Party issue is still being investigated.
