Westchester Teen Named Good Samaritan
On Sunday, May 13, 2001, The United Methodist Men presented the Good Samaritan Award to Amy Schlumberger. Amy more than fulfilled the requirements: ?“the candidate should demonstrate ?‘significant?’ personal and selfless contributions toward others or assistance to individuals in need.?”
At Westchester UM Church Amy helped at Vacation Bible School, and Sunday School as needed as an assistant and as teacher. She also served as an acolyte and participated in the Westside Hunger Walk. Through her school, Amy participated in work camp where she painted the house of a Native American Woman. Last may she walked in the Revlon Breast Cancer Walk at the LA Coliseum.
During the Year 200 Amy continued her commitment of service by volunteering at the Serra Project and Aids hospice located in the central district of Los Angeles. In addition she has volunteer with the Venice Family Clinic and spent the first three days of her Christmas vacation painting, roofing and applying siding as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer.
Amy and her family are long time members of WUMC and reside in Westchester.
