Dear Neighbors:
At the annual neighborhood meeting the following topics were discussed.
May?’s Neighborhood Meeting was attended by approximately 50 people.
Someone mentioned there are numerous unsecured wireless internet connections in Westgate/Taku and for your protection recommended they get security activated.
There was talk about the 20 MPH speed limit. Some neighbors are following closely other Fairbanks locations trying to get traffic calming devices installed.
One neighbor is a certified trainer for Meth Awareness. She is willing to hold a training session, if we want to learn about what indicators we might observe. If interested, email to sbrown@northstar.k12.ak.us
There have been some egging activities, apparently by groups of teens on skateboards and/or bikes. Call the police if you see such suspicious activities.
Curfew for anyone under the age of 18 is 11pm weekdays and 1am weekends.
Saturday night Midnight Sun Run will close most Riverview Dr, Sunset Dr and Ivy Dr from approximately 10pm to 11:30pm. Please make sure any new neighbors understand that during this time they may not be able to drive to/from their homes. This neighborhood-wide block party is great family entertainment and a good way to meet your neighbors.
Next weekend there are numerous garage sales planned on Coppet St. The more the merrier. Call Jan Fortune @ 474-0507 or janetf@mosquitonet.com She plans to advertise: garage sale for Saturday, June 27, 9am to 3pm located at Coppet St. multiple home neighborhood garage sale.
We could use some help with list-serve to more quickly deliver notes to our 400 neighbors email westgate.taku@hotmail.com if you can help.
I have initiated a neighborhood webpage, but it is yet pretty empty. One of the features of this website will allow posting by all neighbors of information that you wish to share. This will be great for things like the neighborhood garage sale, lost pets, etc.
I have heard a lot about dogs this summer. Barking dogs?…..trash hounds, etc. I would like for everyone to realize that many yards now have poison and/or traps due to the vole pests. Consider too what impact your pets might have on your neighbor?’s enjoyment of their property.
Our neighborhood consists of approximately 400 homes, which we have divided into 25 blocks. I keep this email list and use it very sparingly. We use it for our annual neighborhood meeting and in case of emergencies. It has been very helpful in the past for rapid info exchange.
The following blocks need a Neighborhood Watch Block Captain and/or co-captain: Galena, Nenana@ Kuskokwim, Riverview @ Ivy/Sunset, Ivy, Talkeetna. The minimal duties for Block Captain is to be a communication hub for info to/from individual homes in your block. There are many more things blocks can do for home safety. Let me know if you can help. Neighborhood Watch is us helping ourselves.
Thanks for caring.
