A reminder that if you have trees our shrubs that overhang the sidewalk or street you will need to trim them into shape. Trees and shrubs, (see Ballwin CODE OF ORDINANCES Chapter 29 on Weeds and Vegetation) need to be trimmed to a height of eight feet above the sidewalk surface and to a height of 14 feet above the street surface. If you are unfamiliar with proper and safe trimming/cutting techniques and tools, please consult and hire a professional for pruning or removal.
Ballwin's guidelines state that trees and shrubs cannot obstruct a curb, gutter, channel, sewer, drainage way, street, alleyway, sidewalk, streetlight, utility line or other public improvement within the right-of-way. Nor can they obstruct the view of drivers or pedestrians of roadway and sidewalk intersections, and their approaches so as to constitute a hazard.
Homeowners are responsible for trees and shrubs between the home and the sidewalk. The City of Ballwin is responsible for trees located between the street and the sidewalk. If you have a tree or shrub between the street and the sidewalk that needs trimming, contact the city of Ballwin and feel free to drop your subdivision Trustees a copy of your request (WestglenWoodsHomeownersInc@gmail.com). The city considers it unlawful for any person or firm to remove a street tree from a public right-of-way without first obtaining the written permission of the Ballwin director of parks and recreation or the tree board.
Thank you for helping to make your subdivision a great place to live!
