Residential Solar Power

DWP is offering financial incentives to Homeowners

SOLAR ELECTRIC POWER

To encourage the residential use of solar power, the Department of Water and Power (DWP) is offering incentives of as much as $6 per watt for approved installations. In addition, the DWP will purchase excess electricity generated by these solar photovoltaic systems.

Solar power systems consist of roof-mounted photovoltaic panels and a power converter (inverter), and must be installed by a DWP-approved contractor. The system is attached to the house wiring, and supplies electricity during daylight hours. At night, or when the sun is obscured, electricity is supplied by the usual city power grid.

The DWP estimates that a 2,000 watt (2KW) system will supply a 1,500 to 2,000 square foot home with about 60% of its power needs. To learn more, call the DWP at 800-473-3652, or see www.greenLA.com.
