Mural at Meldrum Park - the Artist, David Lowenstein and his assistant, Ashley Laird will be in Sioux Falls for 3 weeks in January. David and Ashley will be working with kids from the neighborhood from Whittier Middle School, Terry Redlin School, Afterschool programs, Power House and Lutheran Social Services to complete the mural.
Partnership with Sioux Empire Housing Development and Capital One. Capital one has given a $25,000 grant to the Whittier Neighborhood in partnership with the Sioux Empire Housing Development. We will be building up our board with more members, receiveing laptops and printers to be able to further our good efforts. We will be sending our newsletters to keep the neighborhood of all programs available to them through the City of Sioux Falls and non profits. In partnership with Capital One, they will have volunteers come into the neighborhood to help with the clean up, plant flowers or whatever we choose as a neighborhood. Here is your chance to have your voice hear. Thank you to Jim Schmidt & Ronnie Fish from the Sioux Empire Housing Development on making this happen.
Neighborhood boundary markers....we have been working on this over a year. We finally chose a design which we believe reflects why we are called the Whittier Neighborhood. Whittier Middle School was named after John Greenleaf Whittier. The signs will reflect that but we still need to decide where we would like these located. The City has advised us that they can be put on top of the street signs already installed. If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of. Plan to attend our meeting on the 3rd Tues of every month at East Side Lutheran Church at 7 pm.
