Gore Recommends More for Schools

PHOENIX, Ariz. (October 11, 1999) -- Vice President Al Gore told a class full of sometimes tongue-tied sixth-graders today that education has become even more important than ever in the information age.

Gore asked children at Kenilworth Elementary School questions and fielded some in return -- one girl asked if he liked President Clinton. "Yes I do. He's my friend," Gore replied.

In between, he told students that he felt there was a need to build more schools, hire more teachers, decrease class sizes, and upgrade dilapidated schools. "I am here because it is my belief that education is the most important priority for the future," Gore said, then repeated it in Spanish for the benefit of the bilingual class.
