Greetings Neighborhood Watchers

Greetings Neighborhood Watchers!

With school out and the weather nice, we all need to pay special attention to what is going on around our community.

Neighborhood Watch Foot Patrol!

We need your involvement!  Starting immediately we will be meeting regularly at the Clubhouse every Tuesday and Thursday -  9:00pm at the Clubhouse front steps!  Bring your flashlight and your walking shoes!  Come and meet your neighbors and discuss any concerns as we walk the grounds.  Depending on how much we chat the walks usually last 30 minutes or a little more.

Recently a resident reported the following incident outside buildings 28, 29, 30 (this has been an area of high activity - parties etc):

Last night (5/27/07) around 2 a.m. I had to call the police.  There were three young man outside, one was by a car that was parked right across from our condo on the side facing the street, another car was in the middle park right behind the young man's car and a white male was in the car waiting.  A third party that I have never seen in this neighborhood, black, skinny male with dreadlocks was having an argument with the Hispanic guy by the car.  The argument got out of hand and this black male started kicking the young man's car.
I immediately called the police.  Then he went to the back seat of the car he was kicking and got a skate board out and slammed it right on top of the bumper of the car.   At this time a girl came out from one of the condos and talked to the black male for a while, then he started walking away, right after that the police arrived.  Two cops in one car.  They brought back the black male that seemed to be closed by, they sat him on the ground by the police car and apparently questioned him for a while.  The other police went with the Hispanic man to the far corner, not sure what condo they went to and after 20 minutes came back out with him.  The cops were here for about an hour, then they all left.

There have been several recent reports of persons jumping/climbing the fence/gate around the pool.  The pool closes at 10:00pm and each person entering/leaving the pool needs to have a key.  Report any suspicious activity to your neighborhood watch or call the police!!  Last Tuesday after the board meeting I was standing in the clubhouse parking lot speaking to another resident and two young girls started climbing the gate to the pool.  When we approached them they claimed to live here "didn't know their unit number" - they were asked to leave.  There was another report of 5 young boys who jumped the fence last Sunday (5/27/07).

I you find yourself by the pool, please check to see if the gates are CLOSED (especially after 10:00pm) - although the pool is easy to gain access to, this will help to deter unauthorized entry, and make for a better case if the police need to be called!  Also, please never prop open the gates with trash cans etc.

Not always home to turn on your outside lights?  Think about installing a digital timer in place of your light switch.  Read the review of my new timer ($20) CLICK HERE  Leaving on your outside lights at night helps to deter crime!  Please check and see if the light inside your shed works.  Leaving the light switch "ON" in your shed will allow the shed light to automatically activate when the parking lot lights come on.  If it does not work please notify the office and have it repaired!!  Please IMMEDIATELY report any broken or burned out lights to the Windhover Office!  We even have maps you can use to attach to your work order to make identification of the burned out lights easy!

Going out of town?  Please notify a neighbor you can trust, friend or family member close by.  Your emergency contact should also have a key in case of an emergency.  Ask your neighbor, friend or family member to check on your residence periodically while you are gone (make sure your door is secure and windows closed etc).  The Windhover office should have at least 1 emergency contact on file who has a key.  Check with the office to see if you need to update your emergency contact(s).  You can also let your Neighborhood Watch Block Captain or Coordinators know when you will be out of town.  We can keep an extra eye on your condo while you are gone.  Also be sure to have your mail / newspapers / deliveries held - or have someone pick them up!
