We at WICS are very happy to tell you
this Christmas story...
The purpose of being on the web is to encourage others to lend themselves to their community and help make a difference in any way, large or small. We received a phone call before Christmas
2000 from Jennifer Jones, who was with a company called Houston Interweb Designs. She had come across our site through a link that we have on the
Houston Chronicle site. Mrs. Jones said that they were interested in ?‘adopting?’ a family for Christmas. She believed that they would be able to help about 4 persons but did not know where to start this kind of project, it was a first for their company. I let Mrs. Jones know that this was exactly the kind of help that we at WICS excell in and that I?’d be in touch with her again very soon.
Well, it just so happened that I would be seeing Ms. Valerie Dorsey with Habitat For Humanity that morning for the dedication of the first 16 houses. I knew that I could count on Valerie to give me some good leads or ideas on a
family in need for the Christmas Season.
As soon as I mentioned it to her, she knew exactly who she was going to recommend. It was truly a match made in heaven. - I spoke to the father of the family and was able to get a good sense about the family and their children. I
also let him know that the people at Houston Interweb Design wanted to meet them and were truly interested in making a difference in their lives, not just throw some money at the difficult
circumstances that the Reeds had found themselves in. Well, it wasn?’t long before Jennifer, and the other Houston Interweb Design team members were
becoming friends of the Reed family. Soon after, I received a phone call from Jennifer. She was so excited and pleased with every aspect of how the project was going. They had taken their own family to visit with the Reed ?‘s and had had a wonderful visit. They had been able to get a good idea of the family?’s needs and Jennifer had fallen in love with one of the children in particular. She told me that they had put up a Christmas tree in the Reeds apartment
and it had been a wonderful experience for her own children. Also, the attitude that the office had taken about the whole project, had served to bring them together in the genuine Spirit of what
Christmas is all about; unearned love; giving and sacrifice; putting others ahead of yourself and truly wanting to serve another person. The entire company became involved - each member of the family was able to receive some very needed items and most of all, both groups were able to find new friendships and added meaning in their lives. I know, from speaking with Jennifer, that this ?‘adoption?’ was more than a token act. I also know that my prediction to her , ?“that you will receive more than you could ever give. Be prepared to be blessed?”, came true ten fold. I?’m not any kind of fortune teller, I just know that God is Good, and He appreciates any
good works that we do in His name. He knows our hearts and our motives, and we could never out-give the Lord. He is so generous with his blessings.
We wanted to share this Christmas story with you ?‘to encourage you to lend yourself to your community near or far, and help make a difference in any way, large or small?’. That?’s what WICS is all about. If you need a head start or a little push in getting started on your own goodwill project, please call. No problem is too big, no kindness is too small. :-) WICS/RA
