Flower Garden Park Neighborhood Party A Success!!!

Sep 16, 2004

The first party of the Woodland Park Neighborhood Association was a huge success. Kudos go out to everyone who worked so hard to make it possible. Alison Dunaway, WPNA Secretary, and Joann Stephenson, WPNA Vice-President worked tirelessly putting up signs around the neighborhood as well as designing our colorful invitations. (Some family members pitched in too.) Jodie Greer, WPNA Treasurer, was on hand all day to keep an eye on the kids in the moonwalk as well as writing checks to pay for the event. Marquette Clay, Flower Garden Park Beautification Committee Chairman along with Joe Dunaway and Jodie Greer made numerous trips to re-stock cokes, hot dogs, etc... And, lastly Ernesto Sanchez manned the grill for 3 hours keeping everyone supplied with all-you-could-eat hot dogs.
The party was optimistically catered for 100 but organizers were thrilled to report they ran out of food several times.
On hand for the day was City Councilman Sam Bowman and local firemen from Firehouse 11 (who have been pitching in to water the trees in FG Park.) They brought out the fire truck and let the kids tour through the truck then handed out deputy badges.

Funds collected as dues by the Woodland Park Neighborhood Association paid for the party. Twenty dollars may not sound like it could go too far but with over 900 homes in the neighborhood the association has the potential to take in enough money to pay for several parties a year. Residents who have not renewed their memberships for 2004-2005 may send their donation to

Woodland Park Neighborhood Association meets quarterly and had this party in lieu of a meeting for this quarter. The next meeting will be in January after the holidays.
WPNAs current project is beautification of Flower Garden Park. There are several neighbors working on grant proposals for future phases of the work that has already begun in the park. Marquette Clay says, "any and all help with this project is welcome and appreciated." He can be reached at 521-8959. Also, help is ALWAYS needed with delivering newsletters. Since not everyone has e-mail and the association only has e-mail addresses for about 5% of the neighborhood, hand delivery is still the most effective way to reach most of our neighbors.
