         HALLOWEEN   TREATS

This year, as in past years, the Association is again sponsoring hot dogs and drinks to all who brave the roving ghosts and goblins to go “trick or treating”.  The Association will have two stations set up  this year – one at 1710 River Run Trail and one at 1612 Channel Place.  The Association provides the dogs and drinks.   Hours are 6 – 8 P.M. Please leave your porch light on if you want to participate in passing out “treats”.

TRIVIA CONTEST WINNER

The question was:  What was the name of Sherlock Holmes’ landlady? … and the answer is:  MRS. HUDSON.  There was only 1 entry submitted.  Ed Gatke submitted the correct  answer. CONGRATULATIONS ED and thank you for participating.  The $10.00 Walmart gift card has been delivered.  New Trivia question appears later in this newsletter.

LEAF PICKUP SCHEDULE

The leaf collection schedule can be found at www.cityoffortwayne.org OR you may call the City hot line at 427-2302.   Your assistance is also appreciated in helping to keep storm sewer drains free of leaves during the fall season, so that water will flow freely.  The following are a few guidelines from the City:  have leaves ready the first day of your pickup week;  rake leaves onto the park strip between sidewalk & street;  do not place leaves in the street;  biodegradable yard waste bags are helpful;  no other yard waste is accepted.  Removal of vehicles from the street to accommodate pick-up equipment will be appreciated.  Thanks.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

City Ordinance 99.047 relates to the removal of snow from sidewalks.  Snow and/or ice are to be removed by 9:00 a.m. each day.  If you need help with snow removal, please check our “NEED HELP” section in this newsletter.  You are sure to find an able-bodied young person who will be happy to discuss terms and times with you.  To view all Ordinances for Fort Wayne, please visit the website at: www.amlegal.com/nxt/gateway.dll/Indiana/ftwayne.

YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE …  It will be very helpful not only to our residents but also the company who does our snow removal if you would please NOT park your vehicles on the street when snow is in the forecast.  Plowing occurs with 3” or more of snowfall. Thanks for your cooperation.

CATCHING RAIN FORT WAYNE

The “Catching Rain Fort Wayne” Green Infrastructure Initiative is kicking off to work with our community on how we affect water quality.  The natural landscape has changed significantly over the past hundred years.  Roads, rooftops, and non-native plants have increased the amount of storm water runoff that can pollute our waterways because they have reduced nature’s ability to soak rain water into the ground.  RAIN GARDENS help solve the increasing environmental problems related to flooding and storm water runoff that carries surface pollutants and contaminants into storm sewers, streams and rivers.  These gardens are designed to collect storm water runoff and return it to the ground naturally.  If you are interested in learning how to create a rain garden, visit www.CatchingRainFW.org for more information.  To qualify for the Incentive Program and receive a cash payment or free plants, you must attend one of the City’s Rain Garden Workshops.  Thanks to Stuart Engler for providing this information to the newsletter staff.

Just a reminder that garbage pickup is every Monday.  Bins may be placed at the curb no earlier than Sunday noon.  All garbage bins must be removed by Tuesday noon and stored in a location that CANNOT be seen from the street, pursuant to City Ordinance No. 50.05.  Thanks for your cooperation in helping to keep our Association beautiful.

WALKING YOUR DOG?????

PLEASE be considerate of your neighbors – and carry a “clean up” bag with you.   Your neighbors do not want to be reminded, while walking in their yards, that your pet has paid a visit. Thanks
